Our goal was 20 families around our cooking school. As of October 30, 2022, we’ve given 2-weeks of food to feed 6,263 families all over the island. Our new goal is 10,000 family - from recovering tourism towns to the remotest mountain villages.

We know that’s a big number, but here’s our plan:

Do everything from a local level, with the help of outside support.

We will do our work in Bali, with Bali, for Bali. And we believe that, with your help, we’ll be able to #feedbali.

Here’s how we’ve been doing it:

1) Identify in-need families.

Adi & our team work with the local leaders of Bali villages to identify the families short of food. Why is this important?

1) Balinese village leaders know their community best - who needs help now.

2) Asking for help isn’t easy. Many breadwinners still have no income, but they’re the least likely to ask for help.

2) Support local farms.

We buy all our fresh produce from local Balinese markets and directly from local farmers in Bedugal and Kintamani.

Ngurah Agung Satria Wibawa (believe it or not that is not his full name), a Balinese village leader, started a brand new rice company called Beras Beji Harum to help us. So now your donation feeds families and Balinese rice farmers too!

3) Assemble packages.

Our hands-on team of trusted Balinese logistic experts and planners makes sure each package is identical and complete.

We pack the freshest produce of farm-bought fruits, spices and vegetables the day before delivery. On delivery day, our team assembles the rice, eggs, cooking oil, sugar and Balinese sea salt so each family of 4 receives a massive package to last 2 full weeks.

4) Deliver packages.

On delivery days we hand out one package of food to every, pre-identified family in need.

We either deliver them by hand to each individual house or we have a pick up station (in the village). Sometimes we blend the two methods together.

5) Document every step.

Frances tracks every cost, accounts for every donation, and documents every single family who receives food.

How do we do this? Spreadsheets. Lots of spreadsheets and WhatsApp groups. So far we’ve fed 6,263 families as of October 30, 2022. Follow us @tresnabalicookingschool and @feed_bali or our Family Page.

6) Raise awareness and funds.

Your donations enabled us to keep repeating #FeedAFamilyInBali. Your continued support will help us scale. We started this intiative, thinking we’d feed 20 families…now our mission is to #FeedBali.

We’re committed to keep feeding families as long as we can, and are prepared to pivot as we scale up.
